Kwikset deadbolts should be available in just about any local or chain hardware store in your area, everywhere from Home Depot and Lowe's to the mom and pop hardware store down the road. I think even Wal-Mart and Target sell at least one or two Kwikset locks, at least in my area.

why MUST it be a Kwikset? Is that the kind of lock on the place you're hoping to get into after some practice?

Didn't make it clear you wanted a cutaway! "Practice lock" != "Cutaway".
there are people on this board who can make them - they will show up. Otherwise, my experience with the ebay vendors for such things is good. You might have trouble finding a Kwikset cutaway because the tolerances there are so bad.

You won't find many cutaways for sale through traditional vendors, because they are really just for hobbyists. It's a pretty small market, and almost all of them are handmade. Here is one, but it is not a Kwikset: http://www.lockpickshop.com/CMCL220-R.htmlRemember, cutaways are learning tools for lock theory, and aren't great for practice. S

How are the not good for practice??
If you see whats going on inside of a lock while picking it, thats like really good for learning and would prob really help you out in real locks!

Hey new guy, Fill in your profile so we know what state/country you're from. There are other stores to score locks for much less money and if know where you're from we can offer better advice. Stay away from Smartkey, it is a new lock from Kwikset and not what you would call a normal pin tumbler lock, so it is much more difficult to pick for a beginner. If you think Home Depot is the only store in your area, then get the cheapest Kwikset single cylinder deadbolt you can find for $10-$14, or you can get a Defiant, which is a semi-cheap knock off and has the same exact keyway as Kwikset, they'll run you $8-$12 and are located at the very end of the lock aisle past all the Baldwin, Schlage, Kwikset Smartkey, and Kwikset. If you get a double cylinder, that might be handy so you can practice on a 5 pin lock as needed and have the other cylinder to take apart. Squelchtone
