I've heard of picks breaking but I've never had it happened to me. I guess it all depends on how heavy handed you are.
My favorite of the week is my HPC spring steel short hook with the metal handle, I believe it's .20 gauge but I could be wrong.
If anyone can recommend a nice thin durable pick, I'm all ears!

Never during proper use. Once, using an old home brew as a screwdriver and I think twice when sneezing or getting an itch at the grinding wheel I've lopped the heads off a new creation. They never made it to fruition though so I dont think it counts.
If I happen across a lock that is crusty and grumpy looking, I grab a fatter pick. Usually a home brew again so it wont be too expensive but no problems so far.

I've heard that especially cheap picks can break while they are in the lock. Did this happen to anyone of you? Do I have to figure on the picks breaking all the time or can only very bad quality picks break? If a pick breaks, is it possible to get the broken pice of pick out of the lock? P.S. I'm not English, so please fogive me the mistakes I probaby made somewhere. thx4help Urgroßmutter

I have bent a few of my picks but not broken any of mine. My picks are nothing really special, just a basic 11 pc southord set.

I've never broken a pick, but I've bent them over time when I was a beginner. Not to the point where they were useless, but to where it took so much additional time and effort that I threw them away and bought replacements.

I've also broken 2-3 picks - but there is no need to worry, if you've broken a pick inside a lock then it can be easily pulled out from a lock by using appropriate trick but also need some additional time.

I actually broke one a couple nights ago, but it was weakened when I was using it one night while I had a little too much beer. It was one that I don't use much, but now I look at the case, and see the empty slot, and it's a little irritating...

Never broke one, but I got one stuck and thought I was going to break it. Couldn't figure out why it got stuck. The pick was a half Diamond and the lock was a KW deadbolt.

Klom brand "Navigator" picks seem to break at the handle rather than the pick or tang.

I think is only usual at begining, late is not usual. However, really there are comercial pick made with bad materials. It happened me with 1 chinese for dimples,I don't used the other picks of the set,was more near to plastic than to steel.
