Cost of your hobby

This was supposed to be my new 'affordable' hobby, as compared to my others. Existing locks acquired over the years, $20 for a 14-piece southern ordnance set from cheaperthandirt..... cheap, relaxing and engaging.

It's still relaxing, except I am now getting more drawn in and the money is starting to ramp up also. Oh well, the fun level is going up along with it

I'm pretty new, but I'd say roughly:

$50 for picks
$100 for some padlocks and ICOREs
$50 for files
$100 for blanks

Not too bad, but I'd love to get my hands on a code punch

I'm lucky i've come across pretty much all my locks from work. I do a new high security system, i remove their existing First Gen Bi-lock cylinders and take their now-useless keys, same for Some Abloy stuff, and quite a few padlocks. I've taken a few padlocks home to pick cause there's no keys for it. And keyed up a few low and high security cylinders from work to (try to) pick.

Probably about NZ$50, but a lot of that was tools (files, etc) that I didn't have.

Translating that into US, about $80-$90 I think, but I've been doing this less than a week so far. Already looking at a pick set that'll bump that up.

150$ for picks and 50$ for various padlocks. Spent 70$ on a multlock cylinder this morning, cant pick them but got it anyway.

I've actually been fairlly lucky. besideds the inition 40-50 dollars, I've realy only spent 20 on locks. most of them i just find. granted, not the best locks in history, but their free, so...

That's all my budget will allow for now. Might be cheap to a few but expensive for someone who never really planned on lock picking being a hobby of theirs. What can I say? It's addicting!

Books:
LSS - $199, Open in 30" - $75, Graham Pulford's HSML - $60 - all the books were worth every penny. I have to keep my LSS locked up (and not with a cheap Master!) or it tends to walk off.

Locks:
One enormous Anchor Las padlock with a DOM Diamant cylinder (thanks Han Fey!), one Rosengren's RKL10, several S&G 3630's, two Kaba-Mas X-07's, an S&G 8501, several Assa V10's, a Tubar, a Helason, more Abloys and Medecos than I can remember, a Bell pay phone lever lock, a Sargent Keso, two of those indestructible 10-pound Medeco military padlocks, two authentic Bramahs, a Chubb-Bramah dual-system, a Chubb Detector... it goes on and on. I've probably dropped at least $2,000 on locks. (I started learning picking to deal with the ones in my collection that don't have the durn keys.)

Tools:
Here's where I get cheap, only about $70 plus a Dremel Pro which was a gift. I make most of my own tools.
