Hi everyone, I was seeking a bit of advice regarding rapid entry into dwellings without the use of battering rams etc. I am a Police officer and as such from time to time I search houses. Alot of the newer type doors, eg PVC doors etc or door with multiple locks prove tougher than your standard door with a single yale lock on it. This results in the door being battered for some time and often ending up completely destroyed.
This presents two problems. The first being that drugs etc have time to be flushed. The second is that we try to limit the amount of damage we do and a whole new front door can be pricey.
So my question is: Can anyone advise me on less destructive methods/tools that could be employed on the majority of front doors to gain entry? Bearing in mind ease of use and the element of surprise that must be maintained. Destroying the lock is also an option as it would be cheaper than a whole door.
I have done some research on this topic myself but I'm no expert, so I thought I would put it out there and ask the people that are. I am located in Europe. If anyone wishes to PM me in relation to this please feel free to do so.
Thanks, Paul

If your doing a raid you want to get inside as quickly as possible, picking a lock can sometimes take you 5 seconds or 30 minutes, so by the time you non destructively open the door all the evidence is long gone, personally I would think that depending on what type of lock is being used you will be better off destroying the lock and not the whole door but we can't discuss destructive entry in the open forum.
Maybe it might be worth getting a few different locks on doors for a training exercise and get a locksmith to come out and show you the most effective way to gain entry, though lockpicking would be very usefull to know for if you ever have to open a door to help someone, so if you do want to learn how to pick locks you will find your answers here, just read through the forum.

As a police officer, you should already know the answers to your questions via your training. At worst, you should have training available to you from your station in the event it wasn't in your normal curriculum.
But my money says that you aren't a police officer.

Not to mention that picking a lock puts you in a very vulnerable position if they detect you, that's not a problem with battering rams, sledgehammers and breaching charges.

man i thought i was back at the ranch, when i smelt all this bullsh*t... if your really an officer, you definitly already have all the info,,, and more importantly the TOOL'S to execute a warrent where forced entry is required...
part of the give away is that no police force is responsible for damage caused by an execution of a legit warrant...
nice try..
as a side note, as a fairly new member i find it funny how obvious people with possibly neferious intentions are... or maybe some thieves are just lazy...
