One of those days

I had one of those days yesterday.

1st job....open Kwikset deadbolt & leverset I rekeyed 1 month before.

Picked deadbolt easily but leverset wouldnt budge.

ended up guessing combination and finding a key in the truck to modify...as it wouldnt pick or bump.

2nd job....replace kwikset knobset...customer wouldnt spring for new one so had to use a second handy I had prepared for a demo on bumping (for an insurance company).

3rd job...install safe....simple but boring...

4th job....repair door that wouldnt close properly....some people are so lazy...and just cant think for some reason.

(enough venting)....roll on weekend.

That is great going. Make hay while the sun is shining.

WE also have some days where we don't know where we're Arthur or Martha and then there's days where we have to wait for the flies to hatch so we can kill flies all day.

Like a good old business friend always tells me, "These slow times give you the opportunity to do stuff you wanted to do" Like clean the workshop etc

On my work days, if 1/4 of the things on my "to do" list work right (or I even get to them) it's a Good day. Good thing there is 7 days in the week so i can get 1 day's work done....

I know what you mean. Some days it is better to just go to the pub. Other days (when you really want to go to the pub) the work just piles up.

Did 3 openings and a repair today....a quick $300.00 for about 4 hours work (including driving - fr---in traffic)...got to the pub in time for happy hour.

just came back from opening a 2004 Honda Civic that the guy couldnt find anyone after ringing 4 other companies.

What's the matter with people?...there is a recession on...work is tight...take it when you can get it.

You have my sympathy, I seem to get more than my fair share of days like that also.

Fixing a door that won't shut is a bit of an "ouch". I mean it's all income, but getting a locksmith for a door that won't shut??? Perhaps some people have no idea what we really do.

Fitting a safe might be boring, but try cheering yourself up with the thought of just how many skills are needed to do something like that? Depending on the type of safe fitted, it can actually take quite a wide range of skills. That is not something that most people are capeable of after all! Woodwork, metalwork, brickwork, even electrical work for some.

Oh, and if you wondered why I phrased it like that, I found out the hard way once that while the nickname for a carpenter/woodworker in the UK might be a "chippie" it means something quite different over the other side of the Atlantic...and most certainly not something you want to announce on a very large group (as I did) that "I need a chippie...".
