Picking indoor computer room lock

Postby Chazzy_Chaz » 4 Dec 2008 18:15

I accidentally locked my computer room and I don't want to bust the door down. (The keys were left inside :( )

Attached it a picture of the lock. Just a typical bedroom door lock.

If you look at the picture it has the little hole which I'm guessing is for emergency unlock. But there is nothing to press in the hole. I'm guessing I need to remove that plate and turn it around until I find the thing I need to press to unlock the door.

Would this be accurate?? Just want to make sure before I wreck it lol. :)

The hole in the rose on the lock is to remove the outside lever to re key the cylinder but you will need the door unlocked to be able to get to the retainer, a couple of options are you can pay for someone to come out and open it for you which could cost you $50 - $100 or so, or break the lock off and replace it and the lock you can probably pick up for $50.

Can't help you with how to destructivly gain entry as we arn't allowed to discuss that here but you don't need to damage the door, have you checked the windows?

A little imagination and a pipe / wrench will get the handle off in no time. Even the some of best lever sets(Sargent lv. 10) will succumb to this.

He's locked inside the room. The picture of the knob was taken from a webcam fed through the ceiling and dropped down the other side.

To me that looks like a steel door with what appears to be a pretty secure lock, usually not seen on an inside door.

Really? to me it looks like one of the pre made internal doors you can get from a hardware shop for real cheap, and the lock just a really cheap lever entrance set

Yeh it looks like that to me as well. It's one of those doors filled with corrugated cardboard.

Really  It looks just like this door: http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?action=productDetail&productId=21684-1728-21684&lpage=none I just bought one a couple of months ago for a garage entrance. The point on the lock was that it usually a little more than you usually see on an inside lock. But heck this is the guys first post so why don't you just tell him how to open the door so he can get to his computer and say Thank You.

Make an under the door tool, pick the lock, or call a locksmith.

All depends on how soon you want access to your computer.

Can't you just pick the lock? I mean, this shouldn't be much of a challenge (i've picked these a few times in my home, and the only thing is that its a pain to find a palce for the tension wrench and to pick sideways :P)
