HPC set with mini saws?

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

HPC set with mini saws?

Postby akgreg » 7 Dec 2008 17:21

I have an HPC 60 piece set. 2 of the pieces are identical mini saws. I can't for the life of me figure out what they are for and can't find anything on the internet about them. So what are they for?

Sounds like broken key extractors.

Do they look like this, if yes, they are key extractors, I don't find them to be too good becuase they bend easy.

Anyone seen the Peterson extractors, can't wait till I get some, I had a look at them and the qualitly looks great but a bit pricey.

Yeah that's exactly what it is, minus the bend. Thanks a lot.

The peterson saw tipped extractors are great. I cannot say enough about them. If you buy some, pony up the extra bucks and buy their government stainless extractors as they really hold their edge and stay sharp alot longer than the identical spring steel version. Those extractors have been worth every penny I spent on the extra pair of them I have. I had one gov. stainless saw tipped extractor and had used it a few times. When I placed an order with Peterson later on I figured I'd better buy a couple more since I had used the only one I had several times and figured it had started to dull up. To this day I have not had to use the two new ones, still on the original extractor which I bought in 2005. As far as their scissor style extractors, I cannot comment on them as I do not have any of them but they appear as though they could make getting broken keys out of car doors and ignitions much easier when the key breaks behind a few wafers.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

I'm personally not a big fan of the Peterson extractors, first of all the prices are very high and second of all I find them to be way to large to get any but the easiest keys out of locks. I'm a big fan of the spiral style extractors, where I can thread it down along one of the ward grooves to get a good bite without fighting pins or wafers.

I personaly prefer this HPC series stainless 2000 set.

http://www.hpcworld.com/Picks/p_es2000.htm.
Picture here is small but they are really slender and strong too.

Best I have used and really grips any size broken key and fits easily in tight keyways. In some instances, I could only have success with these. I also have the Peterson, and it's very good, especialy for automotive wafer, but these HPC, IMO are the best and will not let you down.
