REAL review of DX pick Set

I ordered the cross picks and the tubular pick on 11-15 and I received the cross picks on 12-5. The tubular has not shipped yet, but they did send an apology via e-mail with a link to cancel if I wanted.

Okay okay, so I recieved mine 2 and a half weeks later.

Now I got the Green Handel pickset and the cheepo 5 pic set.


Let's break this down, will I ever order from them again? No

The shipping was slow, packaging medicore and pick arrived bent. It's okay to bend them back but the week cheep metal will break.. so you will have some soilders falling before they reach your lock.


The Goods-

The 30 some piece set- is wonderful for a beginner or someone like me who mod's any unuseful pick. The metal is cheap but the handels are comfy so I really can't complain. But man! some of there pick shapes are utter shat.

The cheepo 5 dollar set- This is probobly the review people want. For 5 bucks free shipping there shat quality but hey 5$ you can't beat it. Heck order alot and resell them to noobs who didn't use the search feature.


All in all the sets are usable The green handeled picks are comfy to use. But the metal is crap. The only reason I even bought these is because there dirt cheap.

I would still recomend Peterson or heck even Southord.


So I give these picks a 4/10... mostly becuase there cheap thats about it.

I've been doing a good amount of workshops/lockpicking villages as of late. Would these crappy picks be good for throwing them out on the practice lock table?

Just as a off-topic note to answer the question, I seem to be doing lots of villages/presentations/demos lately as well. I simply have large quantities of Southern spec picks on-hand for others to use and to pass out. Plenty cheap enough depending on how you work with them, and well enough made that they seem to last a decent bit for beginning pickers. It is amazing how those piles of picks dwindle after a few days of a LPV...

Okay okay, so I recieved mine 2 and a half weeks later.

I've ordered from DX a couple dozen times now. Their products are low quality and often knock-off, but their prices are terrific and shipping is free.

Bear in mind that they operate out of Hong Kong, so you can expect each order to take up to three weeks to arrive. Where I live, orders consistently arrive in about two weeks.

(I've not actually purchased their lock picks yet.)

I always get people asking me for picks but I rarely carry more than my personal 3-4 piece set. Last time I did the village i had an extra pick lying around and, of course, someone busted it when I let them borrow it. No big loss, but would this set be decent for what I need? Remember that most of these people will be overly heavy handed with the picks, being beginners and all.

Actually for this purpose I would highly recommend HPC's emergency set. Very durable esp for newbies. I have seen this set for as little as 10-11 bucks shipped. I just bought one for a newbie I'm introducing to picking. I liked it so much I ordered another for me. It's fun to be a little more heavy handed with this one when exploring.

that "green handle set" is a KLOM set I believe. My buddy orders from there often and says it takes about a week to get it to california but when I get my package i'll let you guys know.

just to let you guys know, I ordered a klom set of dx i also got a goso set but thats for later. Anyways I ordered on jan 8th, and just today my picks came in. the 20th. almost 2 weeks and the airmail tracking number they give you doesnt even work! It just says left china on 12th and apperently it came in today. I will be doing a small review on the klom 31 peice set when I have time this week. I will do a review on the goso when i get into advanced. At least now I can stop paying for locksmiths at the auto auction.

ok the 31 peice klom is a pretty decent set for the money. I order it from dx with some other stuff. The shipping took forever and track number didnt work. The packaging was crappy. I have 1 bent pick (short hook). The set has alot of loose parts in it that are not held down so if you carry the KLOM set around when you open the pouch theres a huge mess. Theres about 5 tension wrenches with different thickness,legnth,and twists. The grips on the klom are pretty comfortable but being so it takes away some feel when picking. The kit comes with alot of picks that aren't very useful. Alot of people talk about how the pouch is to tight for all the picks but I dont find it as bad as they say. Don't get me wrong it would be nice to have more room there. For those who don't have a set of bought picks, the thickness of these picks are about on the money to a hacksaw blade. The metal I use for my picks are a bit thicker then this.

pros: A decent set to pick up. Comfortable grips, decent quality (i prefer my home made ones) There are about 12 differnt sized hooks.
cons: grips make it harder to feel the pins, the pouch could use more room,a few picks that have no real use.

overall I would give this set a 7.5/10 with the comment to get the set as a back up and leave it say in your car or emergency bag?

I bought the cross picks and the tubular pick. The 3 cross picks seem to be well made and the only difference is the tensioning part for different size locks. I only have one lock to try these on and I can rake it open consistently is about 5 seconds.

The tubular seems to hang up on the quick reset, it catches and requires a little bit of a fight to get it to work. I've never had one of these and it seems the fingers do not tighten down as they should. When they are as tight as I can get them the fingers will still move if you try to pick a lock. I have 2 locks to use this pick on, one is a Ace ll and I have yet to pick it with this pick, but I have single pin picked it with other tools. The other is a cheap ace and it will unlock every time by just inserting it into the lock.

update: the rank on the klom set snapped on me just now. It was really random I was testing random picks on a few padlocks everything was good and i heard a click louder then a pin resetting and there you go 3/4 of the rake was gone. weird thing is I cant find the peice inside the keyhole now.

I've had the 9 and 31 piece sets for quite a few months now, the prices for them are fine, the quality of the tools is sub standard the steel is thick but for the price they are ok and they work, they are good for giving to someone who wants to have a practice and you do not want to give them your petersons to play with my grandson loves getting them out and playing with a few padlocks with them.
The only downfall is the shipping time, can take upto 3 weeks, i have ordered a few items from DX (not all lock related) and i've had delivery in as little as 10 days and as much as 21, if your not in a hurry for the items then you should be ok with the time it takes.
