Personally, working as an apprentice and picking up all of the tools I will need along the way as I go I have probably invested between $8000 and $10000 so far. A good portion of that was in a pair of good code machines, duplicators, jigs, and another large chunk towards classes, and informational books, code software, masterkeying software, etc. Picks and things of that sort are so minute that I don't even really count the costs of those materials.
