Hello all :)

Been lurking here the last few days soaking up information. The reason... 2k worth of camera gear locked in a box I can't open.

When i go taking photographs I pack my camera gear onto my motorbike's carrier box. Unfortunately my bike was suffering from starter problems so I dropped it into the mechanic to have a look at.

I brought my carrier box home with me, totally forgetting that the key for the carrier is on my bike keys ( which the mechanic now has ).

The spare key is nowhere to be found so I cannot get at my cameras and I missed some really nice moon shots this week as a result.

Nothing major to get annoyed about since I'll collect my bike on friday and be able to open the carrier then but I couldnt help thinking' "If i could pick locks I wouldnt be in this situation", so here I am.

Im starting small, popped a 3-pin Tri-Circle 261 last night. Not a great accompishment but one has to start somewhere right? :)

I have a set of lockpicks in the post too and I need to stop off at a hardware stores to get some locks to play with.

Hi there,this is my first post so please be gentle with me.Ive been locky'ing for a relatively short time and ive got a lot to still learn! So any advice i can get will be gratefully recieve.Im bonified but as i said ive still got a lot i wanna learn.My biggest prob at the moment is getting to grips with Mortice lever lock picking,ive had some success but probably more luck than skill.I use a CB MG Multi pic and as ive said not had much luck on various locks.So anyone kind enough to pass a few suggestions my way i will remain in your debt!! I'm currently in the RAF with a discharge date of Oct 2010. I'm an Airframe Technician so I have an engineering background however, I want to make a career change (away from aircraft) and could see myself being involved within the Locksmith industry.

I have zero experience or knowledge but I am a fairly quick learner and have good hand skills.

If I decide to go down this route I will take the plunge and enrol on any relevant courses. I will scour these boards for any advice as to what is best for me and what to avoid.

I look forward to making a contribution to the forums and picking up any good gen - of which I'm sure there's plenty.

Well, hello there everyone,

I've been working as an apprentice locksmith for a few months now because a friend of mine that has owned/operated a locksmithing shop needed some extra help. The first few days was mostly spent organizing stock and other things but when it really got busy she decided to show me how to really help out with the bench work.

Basically, I got really into this stuff, Started doing basic re-keys and imprisoning, then started doing hand making of 'skeleton' keys to customers locks and then moved up to keying up Primus, Medeco, and Mul-T-Lock cylinders/locks and I have been fiddling with the software for Videx stuff and learning its ins and outs.

I have always been more involved in music throughout my life but I was always taking apart various instruments/effects and modifying them, or fixing random old stuff I found for cheap from places around the bay area.

After learning the basics, I fell in love with working on locks and in a way, its somewhat similar to what I would do with all this old equipment I ran into, mainly, find a way to make it work, but not necessarily the way it was -designed- to work. (though, in my fiddling with locks, I have yet to be hit with a blast of live current so locks are much safer than 40+ year old tube amps)

About two weeks ago I started going out on service calls with my boss since she has bad wrists and knees and cant work like she used to. She has the 30 years of practice, and I have the good knees and wrists, so together, we get things done pretty efficiently. I have my temp license set up and am waiting on the great (slow) state of California to process and send me my full license, and in the mean-time, my boss bought me a basic picking set and gave me some random cylinders from our re-cycle bin (Some Schlage DB cores, random mortice stuff, and a couple kwiksets) and told me to start practicing so she can sit in the van and read while I go do the grunt work and go to her if I run into any problems.

Been doing a bit of research online and so far have found this site to be a huge wealth of knowledge and information so I signed right up and look forward to learning even more from all you experienced folk.
