Postby Silver_death0 » 23 Dec 2008 8:46

Haha. Well, i think you mean pin-tumbler. tumblers are just generic things that keep the lock from opening. You can use any kind of "normal" lockpick. The ones that are flat, metal, and look kinda like what they are named after. like the hook, the ball, double ball, half-diamond, snake rake or something. In my opinion, its better and more fun to make your own picks, than to buy picks. To do this you need a dremel or files or a grinder, and some metal. good luck on finding or making picks. Welcome to Lp101.

lockpicks.com seems to be down at the moment, so I'll use southord links instead. You do get a 10% discount at lockpicks.com with the coupon lp101. It's quite possible (and easy) to purchase a set of standard picks like these and then purchase individual slim picks like this. I don't have any experience but this seems to be the consensus - 1. buy a cheaper set (locksmith's use higher-end equipment that you don't need), 2. buy a smaller/simpler set (locksmith's use a higher number of picks that you don't need), 3. get standard size picks because they're more durable and hence more difficult to damage and 4. buy some slim picks if you so wish.

OK here's what you do. Go find a kangaroo and ask if she has lockpicks. She will say no but of course she will be lying. Wrestle her to the ground and feel around in her pouch until you find them, be careful, they kick. Now, since kangaroos are found only in Australia the lockpicks she has are sure to work in Australian locks. Otherwise it would be pointless for her to have them right?

Freakparade's logic appears bulletproof, but if you don't have time to beat up dozens of roo to find the set you want, then his thread might help you shop. http://www.lockpicking101.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=39809

I sEe how you could be confused. Japanese and euro picks are just slimmer than normal ones, due to the smaller locks in those regions. They are for pin tumbler type locks, definitely the type you are lOoking to pick.

I used standard ones for many years and I thought they where fine, then I got some slimline ones and I would never go back, there is so much more room inside the lock to move the pick around and the Southord slimlines that I now use have better feedback than the HPC ones I would use.
