I didn't quite understand why the photo showed a dom IV key however, I think the pink thing on the dom common pin tumbler type is the stop, it probably has some kind of fastener through the 3 holes drilled in the keybow. photo is not clear on what this pink thing is. The older way of using hot glue to make a stop could also be aided by pins through those holes. and the hot glue will prevent scratches on the cylinder face.

Generally, a lock that is indexed by the end of the keyway rather than by a shoulder, needs a bump stop. While locks that index at the shoulder would not need one.

Looks like the Dom key is cut and the result is riveted onto the bumpkey.

Not sure what the pink thing is / does.

I don't see the point of this? If it is to protect the bump key or the door from damage, than something softer is better. The way it is now it seems like it would leave MORE evidence of bumping, given the size of the DOM key. Stick with glue gun shoulders, methinks.

gentlemen, i may not be a good locksmith as you critics are, i just find it effective for me. i use it effectively in bestkey you know best key has no shoulder right? yale key has weak shoulder too, and one time(maybe by chance..) i bumpkeyed our used 6 pins medeco core. (by the way dont be confuse about that little color there, i forgot to remove. that is just a paper sticker. My most thanks to our Good Moderator who i know try quite a good deal in posting my said little project.

Hes right about best keys, they have no shoulder and are tip stop indexed,
if you start hammering a key into that keyway, you can bend the riveted cap on the end of the plug that indexes the key, this will cause problems with the true key making it tricky to use.

i like the idea of using pins as little rivets, but i'm not keen on using metal as a stop. what about peening on a hard rubber piece instead of metal?

using a hard rubber as a stop guard is quite an idea too, as long as it is install firm on the bump key. thanks UNJUST
