Search lp101 for dissasembling a Euro lock.
generally, you open the lock with the key or pick it so the pins are not locked up, then or before opening it, either way, look for a spring clip on the back end of the plug that holds it on the lock. remove this, and unlock the pins by key pick or shim. then without turning it back to where the pins would lock up, pull the plug out the front. some do this in a clear plastic bag, cause things will jump.
definately work on a towel to keep little parts from rolling or hitting the hard surface and bouncing unpredictably like a football.
Removing the small caps that you speak of can make the lock very difficult to repair unless you have some replacement caps to press in there.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
