When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

I would just very carefully cut them out and stick them with some glue. As long as they are stuck down nice and firm you could try drawing round them with a permanent marker, something like you'd write on CD's with then peeling off the template. Grinding round the paper template would be difficult but not impossible, it will probably scorch and dissolve with the dunking though.

Else, look at the template, and go by eye. Making picks by measuring the keys to locks or just by examining professional lock picks can be done and in fact after you've made a few you'll probably want to tweak the designs to suit your style or target lock at some point anyway.

Good luck :P

perhap use some of that Clear plastic i think it works in an inkjet or thay make some print the picks on to it then cut them out with space on the bottom tape it to your Metal then brysh some metal blue or Perm Marker over the temp bottom to top if you go top to bottom you will mess up the blueing once thats done a couple times let it dry and untape the temp you should have a near perfect copy of the temp

The best and quickest is to take a felt tipped permanent marker (black) that has about 2mm wide tip and use it to draw a line on the pick material. Then you just cut to this line and it works fine.

Somehow every beginning to make picks think that templates are necessary or something like that.

Here is an example what I'm talking about. Made free hand all the way. http://koti.mbnet.fi/einstein/tiirikointi/tiirikanteko/karjet.jpg

print out the template and carefully tape it on what ever you are making the picks with. Use a sharpie and color the outline of the template. Remove the template and just grind the sharpie away with a wheel grinder for mass and dremel for details.

Use the template to guide you in roughing in piece, but after you are close to the line, forget the template and eyeball it. for the final cutting down to the line, files are best, and a steady hand in applying them.

Most designs do allow a bit of leeway in the size, so freehand drawing is usually fine.

Where the design has to be reproduced fairly accurately, I've printed it out the correct size and just sprayed the back fo the sheet with Scotch 3M "Spraymount" and stuck it to the metal.
