Good lock picks Sets

I currently own this lock pick, http://img104.imageshack.us/img104/3445/jpxs6300sc2.jpg. It can open pad locks and is very small. I am more advanced now and was looking for a better set, I was looking at this 20 piece set http://img82.imageshack.us/img82/7969/mpsx20275rp8.jpg, model number MPXS-20, is this a good set? it is made out of Stainless Steel.

It depends on your style; if you like rakes, a larger set with a lot of rakes might be the way to go. otherwise you might just want a few good hooks. or you could make your own picks, to your own specifications.

Hello, welcome to the site.

Those pocket knife pick sets are OK but you will definitely get more feedback out of some proper picks.

I own an MPXS-20 set and it is good for the money. What you have to look out for is that it only comes with 6 picks that have the stainless steel handles. The rest are the same length but flat and after picking for prolonged periods can become uncomfortable.

I really like my C2010 pick set as all the picks come with full metal handles and it is a slimline set, it's a little more money and to be honest out of all the picks I now own I use a maximum of 5 as I dont rake very often. Mind you I now make my own as I find tricky little locks around.

The MPXS-14 comes with all metal handles but the case isn't quite as nice, same with the slimline C1510.

Remember slimline will work on US and euro locks however some of the US picks out of the MPXS sets I have trouble fitting smaller padlocks and I always revert to the slimlines anyway.

Seeing as you already know what youre doing you could think about buying some individual picks and making up a set of your own of that you know you like to use. Having lots of different tension wrenches is a really good thing as well, can never have enough of those.

Well i don't really rake because never open a single lock with the pick set that I had, I was watching lock picking millennium, he was using rakes and alot of this pick in his video, so I was going for that. What picks do you use, include pictures please.

OK, bit of a belated reply but there we go..



The first 3 are ones I made.

From left to right:

1) Falle style medium reach hook
2) Medium skinny hook
3) Skinny smaller than small half diamond
4) Slimline southord small half diamond
5) "Regular" southord small half diamond (I use this for big stubborn locks but just show it for comparison really)
6) Southord short hook

Then we have a small collection of tension wrenches, a couple of which I have ground down to make them in to effective 'top' tensioners.

That's basically all I use out of the 50 or 60+ picks I've got.

I do own a set of double sided wafer picks and one of the GOSO sets which has some interesting double sided picks as well but I haven't had the chance to use them yet.

s-rake and the short hook are my favorite picks. if u wanna stay with the southord brand u might wanna read the threads about the MAX picks, they are more expensive but they are better quality if u are only gonna buy a few of them.
