Ski Lock

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Ski Lock

Postby mh » 18 Jan 2009 17:10

So I made an extended shackle for my ABUS 37RK/60 (and also hardened the Plus mechanism against certain Finnish attacks)...

And now I have a nice & sturdy lock for my new pair of skis :)

Very good idea!

But that cable is not secured very well to that door handle. :)

:D I heard a rumor from Sweden along with pictures that ABUS has changed the front disc to a butterfly disc and now the tensioning disc is at a random position.

Butterfly disc :D It is a detainer disc in an ABUS Plus cylinder, that has elongated keyway cutout, so that the key first turns one cut depth before contacting the disc. This way you can not tension from it. But here ends the deeper discussion of specifics, as this borderlines advanced material.

Well, that's one of the things I did with my Ski Lock.

On the Essen Security fair, there was exactly one lock at the ABUS booth that had this feature - the container lock.
All the others had the old style front disk that could be tensioned by your original* tool.

*I hope you start working on the middle tensioning style soon... ;)

I visited that ABUS booth, but didn't pay close enough attention I guess.

Well, I can only if I find proper size steel tubing and find money for a gas welding set :) Or steel rod and some time, but it is not so fast.
