Securit lock

Postby nixon » 5 Feb 2009 11:26

Hi guys.
I hope I've made this post in the correct thread area,if not then I appologise.
I've tried searching for anything to do with this model, but the only result is a link to a book on amazon.
I bought my lock pick set from southord a few years ago now,and went into my local DIY store (hardware store) and purchased what I thought would be a good starter lock to attempt for my first lock.
After many hours of prodding around,I managed to pick the lock, but I fear that had little if anything to do with my picking skills.
What I am interested to know,is have any of you guys/girls picked a lock made by SECURIT, I guess as I live in England, that it is a purpose made European lock.
I'll add a few pictures so you can see the lock, and how simple it looks.
But for the life of me,I now cant manage to pick it.
I know nothing about the lock,as even the packaging was bare.
If anyone can be of any assistance,I'd be greatly appreciative.

Thanks for hopefully reading thisand maybe shedding some light picking this particular lock.
Thanks very much.

The keyway on this lock looks very small. If you can find a lock with a normal sized key you will have better luck.

Some guys make special tools for the smaller sized keyways, but you would be better off to just get a regular sized lock. The lock itself looks pretty ordinary. Just small.

If you can bring yourself to modify one of your wrenches to be used specifically for top tension, they are always useful in cases like this. You can get away with a normal sized one but you will find it slips out quite easily and may interfere with the first pin, which you dont want.

Here's how I use a shortened wrench on a similar lock. There is plenty of room left to get a small hook pick under there to manipulate the pins:

Be careful not to apply too much tension, just enough to counteract the spring and lift the pins carefully so you dont get an overset. If it isn't binding, go to the next one, eventually you'll get one that clicks in to place and binds the next pin.

Thanks very much both you guys.
The lock on your picture Olson Burry does look exceptionally similar to the one I have here. One of the tension bars I have, actually has a smaller head than the other 3.
I guess most people struggled to pick their first lock, and although I have done this once,no skill was involved.
I'm just going to have to persevere with it,and concentrate on setting all the pins.
I'll let you know how I get on.
Thanks again.

The key shows that the lock has only 4 collumns of pins, so its just get a mini tensor in there and a mini pick but the bitting on the key looks like the pick may not have to be very small.
Wake up and smell the Kafka!!!
