What is the best universal pinning set?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

What is the best universal pinning set?

Postby 5thcorps » 14 Feb 2009 11:57

I am out of most of my various pins, Schlage, Kwikset, Corbin/Russwin, and most others. They were all in seperate kits but I'd like to get a universal kit that has coverage for all of these. Anyone know who makes a good comprehensive kit? One that included master pins is a must. Seen a lot listed on eby but didn't know if any one has purchased ones like LAB, or Specialty. :?:

These pinning kits are very handy but as you have probably seen, they can sell for a lot of money.

I'm very happy with my LAB DuR-x Passport .003 kit

Some folks prefer .005 inch increment kits, I think some locks work smoother using those pins because they are closer to the manufacturer specs.

I do have an older 1980's full size metal LAB pinning kit, and live down I-91 from you in Springfield, MA. I'd sell it to you and we could figure out shipping or delivery. PM me if interested 5thcorps.

The Lab kits are nice for a universal application.

Most of thier kits have both top and bottom pins all on one layer so its nice if you do much masterkeying.

I like the old ESP wooden kits cause they had really deep holes that held more pins which meant less refills.
Bad part was the master pins were in a seperate pull out level you had to open each time you master key.

But overall the universal kit is the way to go.
Refills are much more available and ALOT cheaper.

Here is the set that I have, It's a pretty good set, mainly because those 3 brands are pretty much only what I re-pin.
