Hey ya'll, I got together with Shatter this weekend and we sat and picks some locks, well, he picked some locks and I struggled to pick a lock, it's been a while for me. But, I just wanted to share the picks that he made for me today. These are really nice picks, very effective as well. Made from Wiper inserts too! Oh, and btw, Shatter's got mad skills at picking, makes my American 5200 padlocks look like a cheesy kwikset. LOL! And for size comparison....

Materials used: windshield wiper blade inserts Tools used: a vice, combination pliers, a bench grinder, wire brush, and some emery cloth. I also use a digital caliper for fine tweaking. ...and just to clarify, the pick on the left of the second photo isn't one of mine. It appears to be a Peterson Gem and was just used for size comparison. Also, the weird looking tool in the first picture is a double sided wafer pick that I devised (as far as I know) after having the opportunity to play with an abundance of wiper blade inserts. So far it seems to be exceptionally effective against automotive locks and other double sided wafer locks used for different applications.

Omg, just on a side note, Shatter left me a sargent lock since most all my picking experience comes from American 5200 padlocks, and this thing is really kicking my @ss!!!!!! Talk about stepping up the learning curve by quite a bit, been working on the lock for going on 3 days straight now, and I ain't opened it yet! Oh well, just goes to show that being proficient at only one type of lock isn't always a good thing. I feel like I just got slapped back to the very beginning of lockpicking.

Shatters double sided bogota is similiar to one I have made, however it is also different. made of wider metal stock, it has the bend made left and right where the ones I make have a bend that is twisted with the two pieces together in one twist so that they can sort of nest, and from the bend to the twist, I leave a bit for handle, and also make a keeper that holds the pieces together. Apparently on Shatters version, the lock holds the pieces together. Keep up the pickmaking

Do you have a photo? raimundo wrote:...Apparently on Shatters version, the lock holds the pieces together.
That, and the hands of the person using it.

As soon as I saw this tread I totally recalled this raimundo's double sided bogota. So I looked for its original picture, cropped, published... here it is! I hope raimundo won't blame me for sharing this picture

Thanks femurat. I don't download photos much, most of the cafe computers that I use restrict that. (yeah, the laptops down again.) but I knew that there was a copy of on of the photos around, that photo makes me wish I had taken the time to buff that metal keeper on the pick.
