First Homemade Pick

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

First Homemade Pick

Postby Kayvon » 2 Mar 2008 14:04

I used a dremel and sandpaper to make my very first homemade lock pick.

It's hard to tell from the picture, but the pick is a very shiny chrome-like color. The reflection from the room's light makes it look yellow/orange, but that's actually an indication of a good, shiny polish.

The peaks look very smooth from the sanding, good job!

Nice looking pick.

Nice looking pick. Looks like a hacksaw blade. How long did you spend on it?

I used a hacksaw blade. I probably made it in under an hour, but that includes several "breaks" while I was making it: grabbing a snack, playing with my son, watching TV while I sanded it down.

I've never made a pick using only a dremel, other than warded picks, but I don't think that counts. :) An hour isn't too bad with the multitasking, maybe I'll have to give it a shot. Kudos again, it turned out really nice.

Nice. Looks like the pick tool for the GM sidebar ignition.

nice

very nice job, should work well, don't use heavy tension or force on the pick, try light intermittent tension and loose rapid rocking/inandout/jiggling. It will work on a variety of locks, but not on all locks, the type only addresses certain bittings.

Its a hacksaw blade. Avalible at your local X-mart or hardware store. Harbor freight sells them really cheap too, for a lot of blades, if you want to practice. The shine is from lots and lots of sandpaper polishing.
