Build Your Own Medecoder

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Build Your Own Medecoder

Postby JK_the_CJer » 8 Mar 2009 10:24

Hey peeps,

So I've been getting lots of requests for measurements and hints about building these tools. As promised, I wrote a little how-to about building your own. I'm using it as a guide to build one right now and am almost finished. I have documented the entire process in pictures and also posted some pseudo-blueprints for the machinists out there. Once the build is complete (likely tomorrow), I'll finish off the article. Let me know what you folks think:

This may be a dumb question, but what happened to the notch for the m3 slider bypass tool?

Not a dumb question at all; all you have to do is make another notch opposite the tensioner notch. I found it not worth even using the m3 slider bypass tool. I just pick the shear, then the sidebar, then just press on the slider while its under tension. I tend to describe it as an "open-the-lock button".

I checked out the site and saw the fancy model that you did on the lathe. Any chance of posting plans for that model?

I have one suggestion to make the build easier. For the handle part, to remove the knurling and to prep the handle for the epoxying. Just chuck the handle in the drill and spin it up,(like a mini lathe) use a file or sandpaper to remove the knurling and to roughen up the finish. You can polish stuff this way nicely too. Great plans, maybe if I get some time, and I'm bored.
