Maybe something [i]extremely[i] rigid? I can't think of any plastic-type material that wouldn't have a spork-like feel to it. Polycarbonate is a great start, but it's VERY deformable and isn't very stiff at the thicknesses you'd need. Maybe CR-39, a high-index, or as you suggested, an acrylic might be your best bet.

I know I didn't take the time to put a bunch of picks in there, but I have work that I should have been doing anyway. :P

personally id' be worried about them breaking off in the lock.

if you reinforced them with some sort of fiber they might last a lock or three, but you'll get less rigidity and feed back than from metal.

Why acrylic? It would help us make better recommendations if we knew more about the conditions you want or need to work under, and what specifically you are going to be picking.

I think this might just be a "what if" type of thread; I can't think of any real-world situations where plastic pics would be advantageous.

You don't but He might :D

"real-world situations where plastic pics would be advantageous" do exist, and they are related to metal :
Metal detector when you go in a spectacle or in a airport
X-Ray scanning in some similar situations.

Having plastic picks can be useful for carrying picks when you don't have the right to, for example.

But of course, you shall not. I just wanted to present few "real-world situations where plastic pics would be advantageous", nothing more.

I have used plastic to make emergency or one-time use picks. I carry several pieces of plastic and make a variety of emergency tool and keys. I can sight read a key in a car and cut a plastic key profile to unlock the car.
The plastic I use is cut from a crazy carpet often found in yard sales for less than a dollar

The material that credit cards are made of may be a possibility, but I doubt it has the durability or rigidity required. Plastic keys were often used as single-use emergency keys for cars, but I'm not sure that their use is still widespread.
