My pick selection

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

My pick selection

Postby Descent » 2 Apr 2009 16:42

I've read the forums for a bit and decided I'm gonna give locksport a try. I looked around and picked out what seemed like the most useful picks and came up with this list. Any suggestions or recommended changes are welcome :D

1 Small Diamond
1 Large Diamond
1 Short Hook
1 Medium Hook
1 Long Hook
1 Half Ball
1 Double End Tension Tool

All from lockpicktools.com as individual picks.

Hello :)

That looks like a pretty fine selection to me. If anything I would ditch the large diamond and half ball and make sure you get the plain laminated handles and a couple more wrenches if they have some different sizes/thicknesses. You can probably make your own wrenches although I've found them difficult without the right materials.

The half ball may come in useful if you find a wafer lock and theses can also be tackled with a half diamond or hook but if you want one and need a bit of extra money to spend on handles or wrenches, lose the big diamond, I've never used either of mine.

I'll ditch the half ball and large diamond then. I was considering more wrenches because they seem to be more important than the picks themselves since most locks seem to be pickable with a hook. Thanks for the input much appreciated ^_^

get a twist flex and a regular handled tesnsion wrench, the double ones are odd with some locks.
i'd get a few rakes also.

maybe try some flat tension wrenches, like the peterson flat-5 or locknewbie's. I really like using flat tension wrenches at the top of the keyway. you can make them yourself as well, Check out Kaotik's tutorial in the lockpicks-manual section.
As far as your pick selection goes looks good. I really give a big recommendation to tryin to get your hands on some of Raimundo's Bagotas too.
Have fun man :D
