Oblivion lockpicking is FAKE. Notice post no.2: "everyone knows from Oblivion..." In real life the tumblers come in two parts, and are spring loaded.

If that was sarcasm, it's hard to convey feelings through text.

They look like ancient egyptians locks (with springs.) I don't know the story line but here's a image of what I'm talking about:

Just a heads up to all: When remaking my site from scratch, I forgot to put the LockGame 3D page back in. Here it is for those that haven't seen it:

Fallout 3 has some lock picking in it. You have to apply tension with a screw driver and "pick" with a bobby pin. It is a great concept, but completely inaccurate. The plug turns whenever you apply tension and you rotate the bobby pin around until you find the "sweet spot".

Here is a video on youtube I found http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QYkPfbxFXDw&feature=related

Fallout 3 has lockpiking in it. Its more like piking a warded lock than anything else..

Uhm, i know Runescape has several lockpicking parts, all with no skill, but with all the frustration =) lol.

And Ratchet and Clank has some door decoding, not really picking..its like electronic locks or something.

In the grand scheme of nerds, that's not that nerdy....

Neverwinter Nights, that had lockpicking in it.

There was an old game I played for the Commodore 64 as a wee lad called "Hillsfar" (an AD&D game I believe by SSI) that had lockpicking as an integral part of the game. Anyone remember that?

Picking locks plays a fairly prominent role in the Hitman series. You can peek through keyholes as if they're warded locks, yet he picks them with a jackknife type tool. It sounds realistic, mind you... you can clearly hear the pins as if he is raking them, which is pretty cool. You can upgrade this to a pick gun, which opens every lock in about 2 seconds and makes no noise.

I know this isn't really the point of this topic, but I caught a quick flash of this during a cutscene from the relatively new game "Prototype". Note the L rake, tension wrench and properly mounted euro cylinder, it's a shame his finger is in the way or we might even be able to see the brand, and the keyway is obscured by shadow.

This isn't lockpicking at all, but I thought it was interesting. This is from a game called "Nikopol:Secrets of the Immortals" it's a french point and click adventure type game, and I picked up a key, then looked at it in my inventory. I kind of stared in disbelief for a minute, then got really excited.....I had just found a Mul-T Lock interactive key, in a video game.
