Hi, I went to my local locksmith about a couple weeks ago and asked for a couple of old cylinders and he gave me a bunch for free. They were mostly the small cupboard ones, a few Corbin Russwins, some knock offs of some schlages, but there was one that I couldn't pick yet, a Kaba Peaks Classic.

The restrictive keyway is really a challenge for me and I was wondering if I could get anymore information on it? It should have around 6-7 pins and I think there's only spools but then that's just guess work.

You may find that there is a short pin at the front of the cylinder, that never comes down to the depth of the other pins, this as far as I know is all there is in there thats different from other locks,
PERHAPS SOMEONE ELSE HAS MORE DETAILS THAN I do.
If that the case I would be interested to hear from them.
I have picked this type of lock as practice and in the wild several times.
There may be an issue of deep center pins that will make picking it more interesting.

The short pin at the front of the cylinder is the security pin, it is a short spool pin that blocks rotation of the plug and it is operated by the "peak" of the key. There is no bottom pin with it. If you manage to pick it and rotate it 180 degrees it will lock up again. The interchangable core Peaks are seven pin, eight with the security pin.

the half turn drop in of this pin at the front of the lock may be prevented if you have some recently chewed gum to stuff in the front top of the keyway to hold things. If it does drop, you no longer have gravity on your side unless you are holding the lock in your hand, and you will have to find a tool that can lift it. perhaps a sharp pointed tweezers or just a needle point.

Yeah, that was one of the things that I discovered too. The pins wouldn't bind until I pushed the top pin to the point. I almost threw the lock out until I found that I had to push the top pin up.
