Buying some new picks...

Ok, so I finally gave in and decided to buy a kit. I like making my picks way more though, because it adds even more fun the the hobby. Anyway here is a link to the set I have been thinking of getting...

That's a real good starter set; most people have that as their first set. It should give you an idea of the feel, shape, and look of "real" pick sets. Personally, I don't like the rubber grips, but they come separate so you can attach/remove them as needed.

Well, I'm just going to throw this out there and ask if you've considered the slimline/euro picks at all.

The C1510 and C801 are both good choices. I would recommend these versions especially if you are thinking about tackling padlocks. Both sets come with the re-enforced metal handles which you want for comfort and feedback.

that was what I had for my first set, as you get better you will wonder what other picks are like, later on if you stay with the hobby, I recomend HPC picks, you will see why. Southords are great starter picks and you are making a good choice!

My first set was the MPXS-20, because I was a bit excited and didn't realise I wanted slimlines, so the second set was the C2010, I basically use it for everything, also bought it back when you got $2US to £1 so it was cheaper.

Love those slimlines but really only use 2 or 3 or them.

i had a good read of the forums before i bought my first set- southord c500 slimline 5 piece. because i'm based in the uk i figured these would do whilst i made my mind up about locksport. (also the picks supplied were what were recommended as 'must have' picks in any kit).
i have used these with no problems whatsoever on euro cylinders and euro rim replacements- any wider picks would struggle to fit into the keyway.
however i have just ordered the GOSO 23 piece set since i am interested in some of the dimple picks etc that come in this set.(also at £20 its cheap enough).
Another way of complementing my slimlines was to homebrew about 15 hacksaw blade picks using both southord templates and the romstar templates viewtopic.php?f=4&t=17326 the hacksaw blades end up the same thickness as the slimlines once sanded and polished.plus they only cost £1 for the 5 blades i used.

My first pick set was a 9 piece (+ 2 tension wrenches) Klom Navigator pickset with rubber handles...It was bought as a gift for me...

After I realised how much fun picking is, I spent out and bought the Southord C3010 set (http://www.lockpickshop.com/C3010.html) and the Southord Jackknife pick.

Both are much nicer than the Klom set (more sensitive mostly).
