The adjusting wheel is used to control the play in the trigger. In other words how hard the gun will snap. This adjustment in play alters tension on the picking needle or will adjust the upward force or motion of the picking needle.

One more thing just so you know for future reference, pick gun questions would fall under the automatic/mechanical section. One of the Mods may move it there in case you notice it missing. Have fun with your pick gun and try some SPP, single pin picking, it’s the best way to learn what’s really happening inside of the lock. :)

I also recently purchased a southord lat-17, but as a hobbyist, I don't think it was the best decision. Even so, I'd like to learn how to use it, I'd hate for it to goto waste :(

I see 2 wheels on my gun. One is brass, and says "high/low", the instructions say this is for the tension. The other is black and plastic, its right above the trigger. The instructions say it adjusts the play in the trigger.

I'm confused because I have two variables to work with. How am I supposed to adjust these as I try to pick different locks? I haven't been able to pick a single lock with this gun yet.
