homebrew

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

made this at work today. sanded and polished when i got home. Its the 4th or so pick ive ever made. Let me know what you think about it, and don't spare my feelings. Im gonna epoxy 1/8" aluminum on each side tonight and shape the handle tomorrow at work.

Any constructive criticism is much appreciated.

Nice, nice, doesn't look all that bad. How does it work in a lock? Might as well try tonight, it doesn't need to be pretty to work.... :P

I havent really been able to test it out because i dont have many locks, or a descent tension wrench. I'm sanding down the aluminum scales right now ( sheared stuff is never ever ever flat)

Plans for tomorrow include fixing the half diamond i made today. Its way too big. shape the handles i put on my hook, and maybe make a different hook. I dont have access to a laser printer, so i kinda just have to wing everything.

Oh yea, if i ever get half descent at making picks I want to get some textured G-10 and try to make a handle that resembles my Strider SMF. I think that would be pretty cool.

hey thats a great idea, i have some knives with g-10 handles pretty good stuff

prolly expensive tho

lookin forward to that

as for a tension go to walmart and buy the largest bobby pins you can find(you know the ones black wommen whear*no offense any1*) they are the quickest turning tools ive found and you can bend em to fit almost any keyway. not awfully strong so dont go crazy with it but you shouldnt need enough pressure to bend it

Your hook is a beautiful tool, it has a narrow shaft so don't use it for heavy pressure, but on difficult locks with paracentric warding this thing will slide in there and set pins you couldn't reach with a thicker shaft. If you don't find locks that need this type of pick right away, make another to use on the easy locks to keep this one from being misused in the wrong kind of locks. Some day you will pick a Keymark with it. :D

Thanks raymundo. What the hell is a keymark?

i more or less finished the handle at work today. I was cutting the ill call it a finger choil (because im a knife guy) with a die grinder and the thing took off and cut where i didnt want it to. So the "finger choil" isnt exactly the shape i want it to be and my dremel is nowhere to be found i just kinda have to roll with it. If i did have my dremel i would have smoothed/sanded out a few things to make it more uniform all over, but come on this is the first pick that ive ever really given two shits about.

Its more or less how its going to stay. im gonna sand the scales down with probably 400 or so and stop there. Polish the pick itself up a little to get the epoxy off of it.

Its not too bad. Way more comfortable than just the hacksaw blade. i want to radius the edges when i find my dremel.

It's the Medeco name for cylinders with unusual patented keyways for higher levels of key controls. http://www.medeco.com/products/products_detail.php?category_ID=166&
