Picked EVVA DPS

Postby SnowyBoy » 10 Jul 2009 17:26

Not picked anything for a while, but had a go at this EVVA DPS. The spools on it are really long, horrible to set. Sidebar is a nobrainer.... bit pointless really xD

Nice job mate!
That sidebar got me stumped for a few days before I realized that it was the tension wrench pressing out the side bar

Haa, I use a peice of wiper wire with a 2-3mm bend to get hold of just the front of the plug. LEaves the sidebar free then :)

The sidebar on these is rubbish though I think, any lock with a passive locking mechanism is crap IMO. Like the one in the 3KS, utterly pointless..... what's the chances of getting another key with the same code anyway?

Seeing as this lock was so easily picked, I thought it deserved a punishment! The punishment was to be 'cutaway!'

Got another one to do.... will do it tomorrow. I also got loads of 7 pin MTL Garissons, an MTL Classic, a 3 pin Medeco Biaxial drawer lock, and a few other bits ane peices! Busy weekend ahead ;)

:D

Nice job on picking this! When picking my DPS, I thought it was pretty hard and definitely a fun pick. The passive sidebar stuff is only there for key control; not pick resistance (which it is useless for). Also, remember that in the DPSs case, the sidebar is also there to act like a trap pin with the drivers if no key is inserted. If you spin that plug around enough, the whole thing will lock up when the sidebar meets the top pins. When picking, it takes some effort to depress the sidebar back out to free the plug. However, if the wrong key profile were used, I believe the attacker would be screwed with a key permanently stuck in the lock

Jon is totally right, and yeah the key would be stuck unless it was filed down enough that a tool could be inserted to pop the trap pin. However, if you know enough to do this I don't see why you wouldn't avoid filing that spot to begin with :/.

To add: the passive trap-pin sidebar is present in the DPS/DPX/DPI (both styles), too. The DPX is the DPS with two profiling sidebars, one on each side of the plug. In the newer wafer/slider DPI it has it's own dedicated chamber above the plug instead of re-using the driver pin in that chamber. Not sure about the DPE, but probably also in that lock, too.

Funny, I put up the DPI page on LockWiki earlier this week and was planning to finish up the DPS/DPX this weekend....get out of my head LP101!

just got me DPS picked on cam for ya...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vzC8CDXVTw

problem I had was it went from a false set (or what felt like a false set) to open...
shouldnt i get that hump from where the security pingoes from its false groove to the reall shear line...

i think my pick was in the passive sidebar... but im not sure... it it wasnt that i dont know how it goes from a false set to open.
