Key Machine question

Postby shaothegreat » 24 Jul 2009 20:09

Sorry if this is in the wrong section.
I'm planning on getting into locksmithing - could someone
tell me if this key machine is usable and what would be a good price to pay for it??

Thanks in advance!

This is a Keil Turret machine. It is used to cut bit keys. While the price is good, it really is more of a novelty than practical. Parts are impossible to come by and a lot of them have worn bearings, which are babbit. These bearings are poured in place and then finished off. Excellent buy, though, if you are a collector!

Look on craigslist or post a wanted on craigslist in your state and you can pick up a decent used machine from $150-250 dollars...If your getting into locksmithing cutting keys is gonna be a good deal of your business so a key machine is not the place to skimp. Good luck

I would go with a Bravo II or III for duplicating keys. They're accurate, easy to use , very well made, excellent quality and there's plenty of parts available for those machines if and when you need them. Costs around $1500 to maybe around $2000 but well worth the investment.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
