I don't think you heard mixed results, we always tell people not to buy it because it's more or less a gimmicky toy. I guess it could maybe open a file cabinet or a master No3, but lacks the feedback and handling that regular handled individual picks provide.

get a normal pick set, much better investment,

I love my jack knife...Ii'ts southord but I like it...

It does lack feedback but you can successfully pick with it. I keep it on my keychain and it has come in handy many times... If your a serious picker I'd get a real set made by one of the people here or yourself but for emergencies or convenience I love mine... If I run into a lock I cant open in 5 minutes I have to go to my bag and get some real picks I made but it do use the jack knife as a first attack most of the time.

To recap:
For picking not the best, for convenience it's wonderful

May I suggest to use the search function?
Since I've been on this forum I've already seen and responded to various threads about this tool and you'll find me as one of the few who is very happy with it and can use it like a regular pick (most likely because of the way I hold it).
I've used it so much that itÅ› time for me to go buy some spare picks for it because they are in need of replacement soon.
I also have to add that I've made quite some changes to mine. The only picks which are still original are the diamond and the mountain rake.
The rest is modified in one way or the other to better suite it's (my) purposes. I've also modified the tension wrench to fit in locks with smaller key ways as well (I live in Europe, so we have a lot of small key ways). ;)

Keep in mind though that I also have various regular picking sets and I use them quite a lot as well.

I wish they would make a dimple jack knife soon, I would like that :D
