problem with American Lock

My friend gave me an "experienced" American Lock series 1205 for keeps because the shackle wouldn't close on it. It Probably has dirt in the spring
Judging by what it was used for so it will need to be cleaned before it functions normally again. Is there any way to remove the shackle From the lock withoutout damaging it?

ive had a problem like that, but the shacle was bent to far out, caused by me throwing it at the ground do you have a pic of the lock???

ahhh its arekeyable padlock..take the cylinder out and bash it on the ground a few times, you will find that it will fall to bits, then you can test your theory

There is a tool for removing the retainer mechanism from American Lock pad locks.

I don't remember what it looks like, but it engages the retainer, and allows you to remove it, thereby allowing you to disassemble the rest of the lock.

No picture of the lock. Its just a beaten up 1205

the shackle still sounds bent out or in..check it out

someting might be bent out of shape because you have to move the shackle back and fourth in order for it to lock.
