$25 Abloy Protec Padlock

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Hey guys, I was looking to purchase one of these P321's and according to the diagram they show, it is definitely bigger than some tiny luggage lock from what I can tell. Someone a few posts back made it sound so tiny.

Got a question for ya. Ive been doing some research and I can see how stupid easy it is for some people to open up Master Lock padlocks and found Abloy brand in the process. Naturally, I wanna buy one of these for my shed since its super hard to pick but one thing i'm concerned about it is if its easy to bolt cut. Cause I mean its real nice that its very hard to pick but if you could just bolt cut it easily, it doesnt matter how hard it is to pick in my situation. Since some of you had already bought it and seem to know a lot about locks, could you tell me if this would be a decent security lock that is hard to cut with a bolt cutter?

I appreciate any answers on this issue,
Thanks :D

the Abloy Protec PL330 padlock is bigger than the 321 (the shakle is a little bigger than the standard master shakles on the 330) and the shakle is made of harder steel than the master locks do to being borated instead of just hardened. Given it costs 70 vs 25. Also the lock may be easier to pick than most people know but that's a fairly new find and advanced so I can't go into it. Plus it's still in testing phase so it could actually still be hard to pick.

Totally depends on your budget. You can go Abloy, which I personally recommend, as its next to impossible to pick. They also sell some locks with shrouds on them, to prevent bolt cutters.

Or, we can go more extreme, with "anti bolt cutting" and go with a Sargent and Greenleaf Environmental padlock. Same type of key as Abloy- but its a 5 pound lock- and very large bolt- good luck finding "off the shelf" bolt cutters to get around one of those.

Finally, you can go all out, and spend about $1000.00- $2000.00 on one of these. Liquid Nitrogen won't even bust these locks. https://securitysnobs.com/Sargent-amp-G ... -Lock.html (hey! on sale as well)

But I would recommend for your use, an Abloy- anything above model # 342. see link below.

Yeah I see what you guys are saying. And if I had the money for it, I would get the 330 or above. Those $1000+ ones look insane lol. I guess what im really asking is if someone could buy some regular bolt cutters from a home depot and it would actually work on the pl321 since its only stainless steel. If so, I might be able to opt for the 330 or 340.

And what would you recommend for a gym locker lock? Would the pl321 suffice or should I opt for the 330 or 340 aswell for that type of application?

Thank for all your replies!

Gym Locker? use the cheap 25.00 abloy lock.

If your worried about someone breaking in, well get something better. Unless your spending quite a bit of $$$, most padlocks can be bolt cut open- even with guards. (but than your also talking about using 5 foot long bolt cutters...)

lol would be funny to try and see someone try and sneak in with a 5 foot bolt cutter. After reading a few stories online about gym locker locks being bolt cut (not at my particular gym but still), it got me kinda paranoid. I might just get the 330 or 340. If the pl321 uses the same kinda shackle a masterlock would use, seems like it wouldnt be enough. I guess its better to spend an extra $50-60 now than run the risk of having your stuff stolen, thats my logic anyway.

If its for just a gym locker and you are worried about bolt cutters cutting the stainless steel I would still say 330. Its got the boron steel shackle and the shackle is thicker. The 321 is made as more of an executive lock for luggage and such so the shackle is thinner than the standard padlock. The 330 is still cuttable but still harder to cut than the 321 and the standard master.

You also gotta make sure the bolt is not too big for the locker locking tab..

Oh yeah that too. The 330 shackle is about the same diameter as a master number 3 the official spec for 330 is 5/16 inch and master 3 is 9/32 inch. So .5 sixteenths difference. I used mine on my locker in the barracks for about 3 days before curiosity got the best of me.

It is a little bigger, as it is 8 mm ;)

Yeah I thought about that too and I measured the hole of the locker and it could even fit a 10mm if I wanted so the 330 should work just fine. I might aswell go with the 345 since its only $15 and im spending all this money anyway. Think ill go with that.

Thanks for all your help!

He meant the 340; it is 15$ more than the 330 (from security snobs).
