Master lock No1

Postby liquidz » 20 Aug 2004 22:04

I got a couple of master lock model #1's here one I plan on disassembling later, however one I want to keep to pick and add to my collection of locks.

Anyway I noticed with both of these locks that the core moves around like crazy. I can't rake the pins (let alone pick the individual pins) very well because the core moves around so much. Is this normal for master locks, or this particular model?

I only have one other master lock besides these two, but it's a little brass luggage bag padlock that I got at a yard sale. The core in that lock does'nt move around.

So my guess is that maybe this is some kind of anti pick design?

It is normal...
and I think rather than being anti pick, its more like anti-good lock design...
I wish the world was flat like the old days, and I could travel just by folding the map.

That's what I thought it would be, I was trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.

So now my question is has anyone tried to get something round the core, and maybe perform some kinda slim jim type bypass on these. I have'nt disassembled one yet, but with as much movement that these have, I would think it might be possible.

That would be harder than actually picking the lock. Master padlocks are not brain surgery.

My theory is that if it can be done a custom tool could be made, and it could potentialy be just as easy as opening it with a key. In theory that is.

I still have'nt gotten around to taking that one lock apart, I just don't have any safety googles to use while I grind/cut off the ends of the rods going through the lock.

Your right. some Master Locks are good for practice though. I prefer American Locks. they fit in a vice nicely, come in different colors, and most of them are rekeyable :)
