homebrew carrycase!!!

Postby Darrylportelli » 11 Sep 2009 12:13

Hey I decided to make a carry case for my home made picks. My mother sowed it together and it came out neat.. I used corduroy as the main material then lined it with a tough lining material that I bought..The cost came out to be round $20 but idiot me bought for about 4 carry cases so the actual cost is around $5. I hope that the pics upload successfully. my mother told me shes gona make me another from suade next week and if you guys like Ill make a tutorial on how to make it (altough she said she ll do another design for the suade pocket.) the camera doesnt capture all the lush beauty of the shining corduroy but any way here it is....

Thats a nice case but you need more picks for it. I am going to make a case when I get back to the states. I found a supplier that sells Kevlar and am thinking about a kevlar pick case just so I will have a kevlar pickcase.

Do your picks have handles or are they the standard metal handles? jamesphilhulk is making one kind of like that from a case he saw on youtube. The only real difference is that his will have 2 rows of pockets instead of one but it still has the flap to keep the picks in. The two rows looks nice because then when you roll it up the handles of the first row lay on the pick blades (mind balnked on the proper word) and the second row handles do the same so you have a consistantly shaped roll and are less apt to bend the picks since they are protected by the other row. Just an idea for your future cases

No mine have normal handles..just the metal... but I will make a set with anodized aluminium handles like ratyoke does cos their so nice.. I like the Idea of 2 rows but it takes ages to sew the individual pick pockets!!!

Hi tjweaver
I´m interested about that kevlar. Do you know if sowing needs something special? Like stronger needle perhaps?
Any experience sowing it? Or is it glue only? I´m a cobbler and been thinking of making something out of it.

Id say good luck trying to sow kevlar. when you try to sew it try punching holes first like you do when sewing leather maybe it helps but then again I never tried it. And if you dont mind me asking.....why kevlar?? there are thousands of other lush and beautiful materials to name a few: corduroy velvet leather denim ecc.....or is it just for the sake of it?? any ways good luck and post pics if you make it..next week my mom told me she ll make me a suade one and Ill make a picture tutorial on how she made it...

Sorry for getting a little off topic.
Some motorcyclists have been asking for paddings on leather pants. I know there are many other materials for it but I guess it just sounds cool to have kevlar. :P
If I have to punch every needle hole with a nail it´s just too much work.
