What kind of lock is this?

Postby nesikeik » 13 Sep 2009 5:21

Hello, I have a lock that I want to pick, but I can't find information about it because i dont know how it's called.
Here is how it looks:
Lock - http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/9657/dsc01755z.jpg
Key - http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/3402/dsc01756d.jpg
Key(different view) - http://img21.imageshack.us/img21/641/dsc01758s.jpg
Keyhole - http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/2526/dsc01759b.jpg

Could anyone say how this lock is called, and/or give me links about how this lock works and how to pick it.

Thanks.

Hello,

Your padlock is a Russian made disc detainer lock which is based on the Abloy "Classic" model. Regular lock pick set tools cannot open this lock. You would need a special decoder tool, but because this style 'disc detainer' mechanism is considered high security, we do not talk about how to pick/decode/drill this type of mechanism in the public forum.

If you are just learning lock picking, this lock would be too difficult, so you may want to find a pin tumbler lock instead.

Thank you for the name of the lock! Now I will be able to find information about it.
Pin tumbler locks are ok, I have some experience with them. I just found this lock in my house and had totally no information about it.

The name of the lock is "AVLOI". Abloy sold a manufacturing license to Kovrov plant in Russia at early seventies.
The name AVLOI comes from russian transliteration and pronounciation of ABLOY.

The numbers beside the keyhole are the price: 3 rubels, 50 kopeks.
