What would be a good lock for home use?

What would be a good lock for home use to secure front and back doors?

I looked at Medeco, but it's very expensive, something like $260 for a double cylinder deadbolt.

I am also confused. If I buy a Medeco lock off the Internet where they sell them for $160, do I just go to a Medeco dealer and have him switch out the cylinder? The dealer I talked to (I didn't mention that i would buy Medeco locks off Internet) charges $100 for a cylinder, in that case, it's no cheaper than buying from him.

No you can buy a medeco lock off the internet without issue but for your money you can buy many other better locks (Medeco has been heavily attacked in the past few years). Abloy is arguebly one of the best and is $185 for a double or $215 for a single w/ locking thumbturn deadbolt. Honestly for home use though you can just go with BiLock which is $90 for the single cylinder deadbolt or $140 for a double and save your self some good cash:)

I would like to buy a double cylinder, a single, and a door knob type, and I want to use only 1 key to open all of them.

Can i do that with Internet purchase or i need to change out cylinders?

I suggest looking at SecuritySnobs or BayAreaLocks websites, they give you the prices, products and you can choose to have the locks masterkeyed if you want to :) Dead simple.

Wow, $2000???!!!

I am thinking to keep the whole thing under $100 but it does not look very likely.

Very nice, although that key override completely demolishes the security of that lock :P

Ah, yes: I had exactly the same thought when I first saw that lock. :) It comes with an option where you have to unlock the X-09 and also present a valid RFID card before it will open: the "key override" in that case is just for the RFID... you still need to open the X-09.

Either way, I hope I'm never living in a place where I have to put that on my front door. ;)
