Lock Stuck in Unlocked Position

Postby Taicho » 20 Sep 2009 2:51

Hi there,

I recently got my first set of lockpicks and have been learning the basics on a few Masterlocks I have lying around. Tonight, I decided to pick my door, so I locked it and (with the door still open) went to work. It only took me a few minutes to pick it and I was pretty happy when it opened, until I went to lock it again...

Unfortunately, my lock has become stuck in the unlocked position:

I've tried to turn the lock from the inside (like I would normally do to lock it) and it won't budge much at all. I've tried sticking my key in there and it won't go more than a few centimeters. I can get my pick in there all the way, but I don't know what to do with it since it seems to me that all of the pins are set, upside down.

What can I do to fix this problem?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Oh, and if it matters, it's a Kwikset 5-pin.

First of all....this is why you don't pick a lock in use! Anyways, just use the top of one of you picks
or tension wrenches, and put it all the way in the lock, and push up while trying to rotate the lock. This
will push the driver pins back up into the top of the lock, since they fell partially down into the bottom of
the keyway when you turned it 180 degrees.
<jkthecjer> this kwikset did not yield so easily

You, sir, are my hero. Worked with absolutely no problem, and here I was already looking at locksmith prices in the area :P

I'll be heading to Home Depot ASAP to pick up a lock that I can mess with safely.

Thanks again.
