How much do the blanks cost? Go to a local smithy in your area and get a quote for a common house key, and adjust accordingly.

Depends where you are like, here in the U.S if you go to any locksmiths they would charge you more, than if you were to go to home depot and if you go to one of those places, that just cut keys is even cheaper to get your house key cut but then again depend, where you are and where you go i hope this helps.

I charge 2.50 per duplicate of a stocked key (so I can compete with my local hardware stores) and 5 to 15 per code cut key, depending on the time spent and if the blank is stocked or not. I was looking for a comparison if I was under charging for keys.

Duplication charge is decent, especially considering your location's size. Do you guarantee your keys work?
What are other locksmiths charging in your area for cutting keys by code? We charge a flat rate a bit higher than yours, no matter if it's a residential key, or Medeco, or Best/Falcon, or whatever because no matter the case - we're going to go to the same machine (ITL) and go through the same process.

2.50 per duplicate is a good price for residential key.Home depot charge around 2 bucks long time ago, i got this cut key duplicate and did not work,so i have to go back and get it done again at no additional cost.

So I guess a flat rate for a code key is what I’m going with, I'm the only locksmith in town so comparing prices is difficult. . I just don't want to be under charging but still giving a fair price for customers.

And yes, all keys are guaranteed, not good for business having a pissed off customer over a .35 cent key blank. I hope I can say "pissed off" on here lol

are these prices for in shop keys...I dont try to compete with any stores who cut keys nor do i wish to ,,,there is no money in duplicating keys..we do it for a convience to the customer...We are mobile only and charge 4-5 $ u.s. to dupe a key...some keys are alot more ....vats, transponder, hi security ect..we charge a $50 service call to roll truck plus any parts or key dupe ect....most pay the extra buck because its convienent and the dont have to drive to the store,,we nake it on site..if they want to spend $5 in gas to save a $1 more power to them
