Pick Gun Problems

Postby dktf » 5 Sep 2009 3:36

hey guys,

sorry i haven't been starting any new topics recently but i was just wondering for the pick guns (i recently got one), is it normal that the needles used often fall out really easily during the snapping of the actual pick gun? i've used the pick gun to a bit of success but it seems that the mechanism that is supposed to lock the actual pick in place is very loose...(it's held by a twist screw that you can manually tighten)

any suggestions on how i can fix this problem?

I hear it's pretty common on cheaper pick guns that the screw will come loose after a couple of snaps. If that is the case you could try a split lock or tooth lock washer if it didn't come with one, might help. If you can't tighten it at all so the pick doesn't come loose then something is probably wrong.

I had this problem with the first pick gun I purchased at a gun show many years ago. If the washer idea does not work you can try what I did which was to add a little plumbers thread tape on the bolt that holds the pick in place, and on the end of the pick itself (the end that the bolt goes through). I still have this set up on the same pick gun from all those years ago and I have not had any more problems with it coming undone. Hope this helps.

You may also want to consider using a dab of BLUE LocTite on the screw (NOT the Red one).

I had the same problem, every few snaps and the pick would come flying out. Blue Loctite solved my problem.

You could always file a new pick and drill a hole in the end, instead of the original slot in the needle.

Hello,
I have had the same problem, i found a very simple solution for it,
i drilled the hole for the pick holder all way trough,
and attached a locking nut onto the screw witch used to lock the pick into place,
when you thighten it now it wont come loose that easy
hope it helps.
