hey, i just stared make my first picks yesterday and now i want to start using them. my questions is where (store or legit site ) can i buy a good lock that is easy enough for a newb like to repin and work with?

ok... get a kwikset deadbolt from home depot or like hardware store...

kool so what tool might i need for repinning? might as well get them since im going to home depot

If you get the deadbolt all you may need is a screwdriver... or nothing at all

pop the top clip off and the springs will fly out... then dump out the driver and key pins... good to go.

once you get it and look at it you will find the deadbolt easy to dissasemble and get the cylinder out.

Illusion's Guide to Repinning a Cylinder should give you a good overview.

If it's your first time taking a cylinder apart, opening it inside a Ziplock bag might not be a bad idea either: it's pretty easy to lose a spring or driver when you're taking it apart, even if you've done it a few times before, and the bag may catch a few bits that will otherwise leave you crawling around on the floor.

Plate? Look at the installation guide that came with the lock or consult Kwikset's website and try to reference your issue with the accepted industry term. I'll be able to help you if I know exactly what you're referring to. A picture would suffice as well.

ok i got the strip of metal off (the ones covering the springs and pins) i just had to slide it off. i feel like a retard

I wouldn't have removed that if I were you. Anytime you disturb the factory crimp you run the risk of the bible cap exploding under the right (or wrong, depending on how you look at it) conditions, which could spell disaster.
