Are there any MA locksmiths here?

Postby Jimmy2Times » 9 Nov 2009 10:43

Hello,

I'm looking to get a locksmith's license in the state of MA. I have scoured the internet and the mass.gov website and the Office of Public Safety's websites and come up with absolutely nothing. Can someone point me in the right direction for locksmith licensure in MA? I appreciate any help or info.

Greetings from Springfield, MA.

You do not need a Locksmith license in the commonwealth. It would probably help to register as a dba or inc or llc in the town where you are based in, get insured in case you drill through someone's $1000 front door and screw up or scratch their tint while jimmying a car door, print out some business cards and and join a professional association such as MLA (Mass Locksmiths Association) or ALOA (Associated Locksmiths of America), get a phone book listing, or get magnetic signs on your van/truck.

Other than that, check with your local police/town hall to see if you need any permits for doing the work, and make sure to register with state so you can get a Tax ID, and make your quarterly payments to keep them happy.

hope this helps,
Squelchtone
