weird key

was showed a weird assa abloy key yesterday.

looks like a normal 6 pin cylinder key but with a hollow tubular end like a mortise pipe key :roll:

no idea what its for

I believe the key goes to an ASSA Flexcore lock. http://www.assa.co.uk/index.php?cid=11843

ah, not sure of the point of the spike at the back of the cylinder than to prevent other keys being used, but the warding should be enough surely

I think that the spike will be bent from straight by any brute force type person who may try to insert the wrong key, and after it moves far enough, it may be impossible to insert the proper key.
Unless the drawing shows the spike longer than it is, this kind of ward should be made short to make the possibility of it being bent by something shoved in from the front of the keyway, every bit of its length is leverage when force is applied laterally, so shorter offers less leverage to the distructive force.
