Help; odd problem occured

Hey guys, my first post here so try to take it easy just this time

Well anyways, today, I was unlocking my lock off my gym locker and something odd occured, I wasn't able to re-lock the lock. It's now stuck at an unlocked position, and when I pull up on the bar, it doesn't reach the hole.

My lock is a Dudley B lock. I have the combination and all, but it just won't lock.

If it won't lock, the latch has probably disconnected somehow from the rest of the mechanism. If that's the case it's pretty much done for, so you'll need to buy a new one.

Ahh I see, thanks for replying

although, it's not that it WONT lock, it's that it doesn't even make it into the hole. It's sitting at an unlocked position right now, and when I yank the bar up it goes up to the height of the locked position.

If that was confusing, sorry! I'm pretty desperate to get this lock to work, I have no way to get a new one right now as i'm far out of the city.

So it's open but the shackle is locked down in the closed position while outside the body of the lock... combo locks aren't my thing but I'm guessing it's double hasped and you accidentally reset it after you opened it. Have you tried resetting it completely and dialling the combo again?

If you don't mind explaining the steps for resetting it completely? I'd appreciate it.

P.S I've tried doing the combo a few times but it still won't unlock, do I have to reset it+how?

All you need to do is set the dial to 0 and spin it 2 full rotations. Not sure which direction for your lock though, so do it one way then enter the combo and if it doesn't work, try it the other way.

I tried it both ways and the shackle still isn't budging than what it can go to

Is the shackle sitting in a fixed position or is it able to rotate? I honestly think your lock is banjaxed.

It's not in a fixed position, it can spin and be lifted to the maximum locked position

hopefully it isn't banjaxed!! I'm going to need it a lot during this span i'm here at my aunts

Maybe someone else who knows a bit more about combo locks has encountered this problem before and knows a way to fix it. I'm pretty much stumped on this one though... if it is banjaxed just pick up a new one in town or something.

Thats my first encounter with the word "banjaxed", I looked it up and got the meaning it clearly had in context, but no reference to where this word comes from. Its listed as slang, so I would expect it to be regional as well as contemporay with some period of time/zeitgeist. Who knows about it?

I looked up the etymology and found this:

Actually it stems from the Urdu "Bahnn Gehecked" which refers to a large pottery cooking bowl or gourd....These gourds were not very resistant to heat and developed cracks at the base.
When the Pasthu women lifted these onto their shoulders the base frequently came away showering the carrier with hot liquid or stew.

By common usage then the term became a descriptor for an item which was faulty or unsafe.
For instance when someone would attempt to lift a full basket of cobras for the snake charmer someone might say .."Be carefull Parminder....that could be bahnn gehecked...

British soldiers in India brought the expression to these islands.
