Hey ho,

thank you for making this forum! :-) I am new at lockpicking and thanks to you guys I've just picked my first two locks in a very short time (bout 1/2 an hour at first, now in about 2 minutes :) and learn from it.

I have a handful of homemade picks made out of 1.7108 or 1.5023 ...not sure :) found the steel at work and tried to laser-cut it but thats not good. I can't cool my first try so it gets blue-black fast and breaks easily so I grinded the other ones.

Picking is fine and much more fund than a rubics cube also. I even think that the physical things you do in life (running, surfing, cooking, whatever...) form your conscious. So it feels like lockpicking kinda fits into my life of figuring things out, open them...

KHi! my name is Jon. I'm 28 and I was born,raised,and live in Los Angeles county (SGV) and I'm brand new to lo ck picking. I am interested in becoming a locksmith. I have found it very mysterious and interesting(like a majic trick) since I've been a little kid . I finally am ready to explore it. Ive got a beginner's pick set a couple books and a snap gun. I have had some success with the gun but manual picking has proven to be a real art form and I have practiced for over a month with little to no improvement or confidence. Any tips or advice on picking or the locksmithing trade would br great.

Hi Everyone!

My name is Mark, I'm 24 years old and I'm a full-time student majoring in Exercise Science. When I was really young, I wanted to sneak into my sister's diary, but it had a really small (but simple) lock on it. Without wanting to cause physical damage to the lock or diary, I decided to try and pick it. I just took a paper clip and bent it into different forms and tried out my luck. The lock was really simple, there was a type of release button in there and all I had to do was navigate the paper clip inside and press it. Being that I was probably only 9 or 10 at the time, I was quite proud of myself. Since then, I've always had a curious side to me about lock picking. So, here I am! I hope to learn a lot and have fun while I am here!

Xerexus, I have one of those locks! It has a tiny little spring loaded lever off to the left hand side of the keyway, which you can see if you look into it. It's just a case of pushing on it like the key would do, with whatever you have to hand, and the shackle pops right open. Very simple mechanism but that's a fine job figuring it out at such a young age... I think when I was around that age I got a warded luggage lock stuck on something and my dad had to cut the shackle to get it off. This was back in the days when locks could only be opened with the key and if you lost it, that was it. A notion which is now laughable, at best. :D

got locked out the other day as i forgot my key. went to the garage, low and behold my picks, still packed away from my move in a box with a bunch of locks. grabbed em and popped open the door in 30 seconds. was stoked, so here i am rekindling an old hobby.

Always have had an interest in locks and now finally getting around to developing lock picking as a hobby. Very new at this, just bought a set of picks and am tracking down some padlocks etc. to start picking.

Thx for a great site, ad thx for helping me refine my mindless raking to somthig that almost resembles Single Pin Picking - But mainn, i think its one of the 17. greatest feelings in life, that is opening a lock with a ball point pen and a bobby pin... well i guess i really need to make myself a decent pick set...

I am from Sask Canada and I just started lock picking. I ordered a decent set of tools and I cant wait for them to get here! Picking with a paperclip and a hammered close hanger for a tension wrench is not so fun but I have gotten the odd lock! I hope it will be an interesting hobby for me! These forums rock!

I'm Quiksilver from Denver and am 23 years old. I currently live in Laramie where I go to the University of Wyoming, and have been into Lockpicking for just about a year now and have spent my time in the past attempting to pick a door knob I own, and random padlocks around the house with paper clips and bobby pins. I would sit there for hours a night trying to get the feel for the lock itself with little success...well just this morning my GF and I exchanged Christmas presents and she got me my own Southord lockpick set to further advance my hobby. When looking online, and reading the MIT guide I started to believe that my door knob had spooled and serrated drivers and that was the reason I was having so much trouble. Well in my search to find out I stumbled upon this forum and I had to register, I can already tell this forum is right down my alley...THANK YOU

My name is Benny, I'm an aspiring locksmith from northern Wisconsin and this forum looks like the perfect place to meet people interested in the same things. I'm going to college for business, and have had a passion for and fascination of locks for as long as I can remember and I'm planning on merging these two parts of my life for a career. When I was 12, I picked my first lock with a bobby pin. It was a pair of $2 handcuffs, with a simple lever inside to retract the locking mechanism, but I was thrilled none the less. I moved up to pin-tumbler padlocks next, and more recently have been working on recognizing and defeating different types of security pins. I hope to get to know a lot of you active members, and look forward to also being an active member of the site!
