Does anyone use Genericodeâ„¢ Me

This is the old Locksmith business info area and will be broken down to fill in the new sections below.

Does anyone use Genericodeâ„¢ Me

Postby npdaniels » 16 Dec 2009 11:59

I hope this post doesn’t overstep the advanced forum rules.

Excuse my ignorance, but I purchased a Framon 2 and a code retrievable software came with it (Genericodeâ„¢ Me).

I've inputted some simple wafer lock codes in the code series and the info the program spits out is basic key biting depths and space information, which I already have.

Am I missing a step or is this all the program is capable of doing? I was under the impression the program will provide proper biting info for that particular code found on the lock.

Thanks for any help

I havent heard much good about Genericode, you need to purchase Instacode, it really does it all.

I use Genericode, but mainly the DOS versions. Sometimes I will use Insticode. But off the top of my head I can't think of anything that Insticode will do that Genericode can't do.

As long as it has the code series of what you are looking for in the software. It should give you the actual cuts to the code you are looking for. You can also reverse it by putting in the known cuts and let it give you the other possibilities.

It's been a while since I had to print an HPC card, but I'm almost certain that both programs (genericode/insticode) can print them.

Anyway, the main reason I use the DOS versions is simply because I am used to it, and trying to use a the touch pad that I have on this computer is a pain when I can fly through the options the old way.

So either you are missing something, or it doesn't have the bitting info for the code series you are looking for.

Your right, It may not have the bitting code for the series, as no info shows up that I don't already have.

Thanks

I have the Genericode 7.1
Although copyright is 2007, it crashes often with some error code and the user interface looks like something from the 80s.

Try some extremely common file cabinet codes or compx cam lock codes, make sure its up to date and working correctly.

Curiosity is getting the better of me, what code/codes are you trying to look up?

Does the subscription give you access to everything or so you have to buy the insta premium code first then the subricription for another 200?

We have Genericode Ver 9.3.2, its a pretty decent program.

One of the funniest thing happened to me was on that program. We were needing a key bitting from a code and the make and model of car eludes me, but we were fighting and fighting it and when we got to the bitting it spelled out "P-R-O-B-L-E-M" on the cuts.

We were like "yeah... you don't say"

I haven't had any issues with Genericode other than it can be a little confusing. I may not be using it properly, but I have always found what I was looking for. Another thing I like about it is, it tells you how to open most auto on the market. It's easy to overlook this feature, but it is there.

I find instacode to be very lacking in info when it comes to motorbikes, other than that it has pretty much everything else.
