How to open an old lock

Postby mutz2890 » 25 Dec 2009 7:51

Hello everybody,
I have a little problem with an old wardrobe closed and without key. I'd like to know if it's possible to open in some way. Here's an image of the lock.

Thank you very much and merry christmas!

Please post pictures of the rest of the "wardrobe". We are not here to save people money on a locksmith, and we do not generally teach people how to open a lock that is in use or securing something. It's not what we do here.

Please don't take it personally but when someone makes their first post with a closeup picture of a lock asking how to open it, well, that makes us a cautious bunch about giving information.

 never seen a 'wardrobe' with a metal door? looks more like an old secure storage box or old safe?
if everyone who tried something new liked it but didnt bother telling anyone else there would never be anything new to try...

If this item is a safe of any type we cannot help you open it. It's against the rules to discuss it in the open area of the site and you do not have the requirements to access the restricted area.

By the looks of the warding in there, the key must be pretty fancy! I reckon you should get a locksmith to make you one, it'd be a nice little keepsake for you.

Here's the photo.

It's an old (I don't know how to call it, let's say 'box'...) box which belongs to my grandmother. It has been closed for nearly ten years and we believe it contains stuff like sheets..etc. Nothing precious I can steal or spoil...
Thanks

Hate to tell ya but..

Best bet is to call a locksmith- making those keys are rather hard, and even just finding the correct sized blank can be a even bigger PITA..

If you can transport it to a locksmith shop, they will charge you less than a service call to your residence.

If you really want to tackle it, search for lever lock. Again, will NOT be easy but its a option. I would be wary to pick that thou, it could be worth quite a bit of $$$, and if you damage the lock in any way, the value of the box will decrease substantially.
