smooshed pins

Postby pjzstones » 29 Dec 2009 20:06

i took a 50mm padlock apart because the pins were feeling really wierd. i couldn't tell what the heck they were. they felt like serrated but acted like spool. well when i got them out they looked like really shallow spools, but they were rounded at the ends. they almost look like they've been pressed or smooshed so that the ends kind of bow out. :? so for lack of better words i'm just gonna call them smooshed pins. has anyone else seen pins like this before, or are they common?
here's some pictures

Well I assume they were probably shaped that way on purpose cos if they were "smooshed" at some point in that padlocks life by some sort of physical trauma, then the driver pins should have jammed in the upper chambers or something..

oh and i figured they were made like that on purpose. when i said that they looked like they were pressed or smooshed i meant when they were being made.
oops on the triple post just trying to clarify.
