Next challenge???

Postby darklighterz7611 » 2 Jan 2010 21:30

Hi all, just wanted some advice really, i started lock picking recently and have now worked my skill up to be able to pick 6 yale cylinder locks (5 pins) setup with (4 spools) with ease. And the same with 6 pins 5 spools. (These cylinder locks are the only locks i have tried to pick and mainly European profile)

I'm basically just wondering where i can go from now to further improve as i don't feel challenged any more  and i also don't want to fork out money for a lock that's going to last me 2 seconds.

Should i just try and get hold of some different types of security pins? Or a new lock with them in? Or do you guys have some tips for keeping things fresh?

Thanks

Learn to disassemble locks, and change the pinning. Whole new lock. That's what I am doing right now, actually.

Next would probably be a sidebar lock. Medeco is my favorite, although I can't hardly pick them at all.

Yeah that's also what ive been doing, but now that ive done it so much with about 11 different locks im getting bored i think i have learnt as much as my locks can teach me, and have swapped just about anything that moves.

Sidebar locks..... how i can get hold of one of these in the UK? Well more specifically how can i find out and buy locks that have sidebars because every website ive been on treats you like an idiot and the specifications of the lock just say "extra secure" "anti pick" etc

Is there a list of makes and models floating around? or a recommendation of a make and model that isnt insanely hard :) ......

Also do i need any special equipment to pick one of these i.e. broken key extractor etc because ive heard they like to jam things inside the lock.

Thanks Again

p.s. while im here i just wanted to say well done for such an awesome forum and members, very informative helpful and friendly!

iv got some fresh from the factory chubb euro cylinders. Pretty hard to open uses slim ended spool pins which seem impossible to set

£5 each posted (uk), only in size 30-30 but no matter if theyre just for practice

If you're feeling crazy enough you could try your hand at Mul-T-Lock. Get a cylinder or two on eBay and a dedicated dimple pick set like this one, http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.17605 . It's really not too hard. A Yale lock using the Y1 keyway or something with similar overlapping warding design is more of a challenge than a MTL (except for the new MT5+).
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

pm sent :)

yeah its the y1 design ive got on most of my yale locks, Its what i learnt on so i dont mind the warding on it, though its a bit of an annoyance with some key pin lengths and orders.

And im liking the thought of getting into some dimple lock picking :) Is it a similar picking technique? i.e. find the binding pin etc.

i think i may have to wait till January before i buy a dimple pick set and lock tho, ive only recently bought myself a slimline pick set which cost a bomb.

dimple locks arent anymore difficult with the exception of the 7 pin mul-t locks and can be picked with a half diamond pick most of the time, no need for special picks

hiya

I have some DOM IX dimple locks and multilock these are worth a good go

And some Ruko flexicore cylinders with some interesting pinnings

GE GE grundman cylinders are nice ones, as are Banham

So there is a lot more out there to make your day interesting

PM me if you need any more hints
