Auto locksmith general equipment?

Postby Rickthepick » 3 Jan 2010 12:17

What would you recommend as the basic equipment for starting up as an auto lockie

im not really thinking types of picks and tools as i have most of that

im more concerned about the key programming, cutting and ecu gadgetery, the kind of work i usually pass on to others that i would like to get into. Money isnt really a problem

A T-Code or a TKO/SBB/SDD for key programming, some kind of EEPROM reader to pull PIN numbers on vehicles the require such to program keys, a heavy duty duplicator like the Bravo III, your choice of a any quality code machines including one that does sidewinder keys just to name a few big stuff.

The trickiest part is stocking up on parts and supplies. What we carry here in the US probably won't cut it for use in the UK so I couldn't name them in detail but it would be good to carry some door locks (if you don't mind pulling panels and doing work like that), a lot of ignition locks for various cars that are known to commonly jam or fail, and keys, endless supply of metal blanks and transponder blanks geared for your geographical area.

The rest are mostly small stuff like decoders and maybe some force tools to help in removing faulty ignition locks and ect. And you'll need to wire up a inverter or a small generator to run your key machines on depending on what you use as a service vehicle.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
